Rabbi Asher Smith attended elementary school and high school in Jerusalem. At 18 he joined the Hesder Yeshiva in Shilo, where he studied for 5 years combined with a year and a half of army service as a sharpshooter in the Golani brigade.
After Shilo he worked as a Shaliach of Torah MiTzion in Kansas City for two years. Upon his returned to Israel he worked as a Madrich in a yeshiva in Israel, while teaching in the mornings in a local Israeli yeshiva high school. He received smicha in Yeshivat Hamivtar under the direction of Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, Chief Rabbi of Efrat, and Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg, a member of the Rabbinical High Court of Israel. Following this he, once again, returned to the US to work in the Jewish community there. This time he spent two years in Syracuse N.Y. Upon his returned to Israel he taught in the Tzfat Hesder Yeshiva, teaching Israelis as well as English speakers, and is now happy to be apart of LYA.
